3200 megapixels: Built the world’s largest digital camera for astronomy

Researchers at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory have nearly completed work on the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) camera, the most prominent digital camera ever built for astronomy. The LSST camera is the size of a small car, weighs three tons and it features a five-foot wide front lens and a 3,200-megapixel sensor.
